The Limits of Language: Zine'ing Loss & Grief Paper cuts, ink stains, et al. - Ages 18-29 group

Writer: Moss & Fern CounsellingMoss & Fern Counselling

My friend Shakeel Lochan is an amazing group facilitator for youth/young adults and is doing an upcoming zine group regarding grief through the Vancouver Hospice Society. He does a lot of zine and poetry work with youth and young adults. I thought I would share the information in case you know someone that it might resonate with since it is not the typical grief group. This is a unique offering and I hope it reaches who it is meant to.

The write up is below and feel free to reach out to me or him if you have any questions about him or the group.

Young Adult Grief Support Group

March 6–27, 2025

Join us this March for a unique and creative journey through loss and healing. The Limits of Language: Zine'ing Loss & Grief is a four-week program designed for young adults navigating the complexities of grief. Together, we'll explore how words, art, and shared creativity can offer solace when traditional language falls short.

Participants will have the opportunity to create personal zines—a blend of writing, drawings, and collage—guided by prompts and open-ended activities. Through the process of cutting, pasting, and reflecting, we'll dive into the messy yet beautiful layers of loss. Expect paper cuts, ink stains, and moments of connection as we honor our stories and those we've lost.

This safe and supportive group will meet weekly, offering a space for expression, vulnerability, and community. No prior artistic experience is required—just bring your heart, your hands, and your willingness to create.

The Qayqayt First Nation is one of the smallest First Nations in Canada and the only one registered without a land base.  Chief Rhonda Larrabee gifts her story and her revitalization of the Qayqayt First Nations in the documentary called "A Tribe Of One" that can be found here
