Support for big worries about the world
Many children and teens notice climate change early and feel it deeply. Climate anxiety, grief, injustice and uncertainty are understandable responses, not “overreactions.” This support treats those feelings with care and respect.

Using age-appropriate narrative, expressive and nature-based approaches, therapy creates space to work with climate-related emotions without overwhelming young people or asking them to carry adult responsibilities. Together, we can make space for hope, care and rest - not to remove concern, but to help hold it safely.
In sessions, we may:

Explore worries through story, art, play, movement or nature connection rather than constant discussion

Support emotional regulation and rest alongside care and curiosity
Exploration is paced carefully, guided by the child or teen’s age, capacity and cues. Conversations stay emotionally safe and developmentally appropriate, with flexibility to shift focus when needed.

How parents and caregivers are involved
Counselling for children and teens is individual therapy for the young person, with separate and intentional support for parents and caregivers. This is not full family therapy. The focus remains on the child or teen’s experience, voice and needs, while also supporting the adults who care for them.

Parent and caregiver involvement typically includes:

An initial parent meeting or consultation to understand concerns, goals and context

A parent meeting for child or teen counselling, that is adjusted or limited to respect the young person’s autonomy and privacy within safe, age-appropriate limits

Regular check-ins to share themes, progress and practical insights

A shared focus on understanding neurotype, sensory profile and what support looks like at home and school
Children and teens are supported in having their voice heard, without feeling monitored or managed.
Parent support is offered without turning therapy into behaviour management. I help caregivers feel informed, grounded and supported, while keeping therapy a space that belongs to the young person.


How we work together on neurodiversity-affirming, strength-based care
This work starts from the view that being neurodivergence is a valid way of being. Therapy focuses on supporting a child or teen’s strengths, interests and needs, rather than trying to fix or normalize them. Differences in thinking, sensing and relating are treated with respect and curiosity.

We draw on narrative, expressive and nature-based approaches. This might include storytelling, art, movement, metaphor or nature connection as tools for understanding experiences and building skills, alongside conversation and reflection. These approaches are adapted to the young person’s age, energy and sensory profile.
